THE RAW FOOD DIET
The raw food diet is the complete savage form of veganism. I researched so much about it and found the good and the bad, but I figured that nobody actually tried it.
I was wrong.
WHAT IS THE RAW FOOD DIET?
I always ask “What’s the point in doing something that isn’t enjoyable”. Especially when it comes to something to do with lifestyle, I believe you have to love a challenge, and if you don’t then I don’t see the point in doing it.
I stumbled across the raw food diet as me and an old friend were talking one day. They are vegan and asked if I’d heard of it. Of course, I hadn’t, but when they told me about it, I thought it was absurd!
So, of course, I decided to do an experiment and try it for myself.
I lived the raw food diet for 15 days and I was really surprised.
That was 15 days of eating unprocessed, completely raw foods. Foods are considered raw if it has never been heated over 140 F (40 degrees Celsius). I didn’t even soft boil or warm up any food. I was strict.
There are no meat or dairy products involved either, that’s the vegan part of the diet.
WHAT CAN I EAT ON THIS DIET?
If nature made it, then you can eat it. The only rule you have to abide by is you’re not allowed to grill, process or boil the food.
Of course, that means that potatoes won’t taste the same anymore.
The diet mainly consists of fruit, veggies, seeds, nuts, and whole grains.
WHAT CAN YOU EAT?
Sprouts (highly recommended)
Fresh fruit and vegetables
Seaweed
Nuts, seeds, grains, and legumes
Nut milk
Dried or dehydrated fruits
Cold-pressed oils (olive, coconut, almond, pumpkin, etc)
Raw nut butter
You might want to get a food dehydrator if you plan on being on the diet for a longer period of time.
If you do plan on being on the diet for longer, you need to avoid these foods:
Chips and crisps
Cooked and baked food
Pasta and pastries
Roasted nuts and seeds
All types of drinks except water and squeezed juice (you can take an orange, and squeeze the juice out of it). That includes coffee, tea, alcohol, sodas, etc.
Refined oils (it’s usually sunflower oil)
Pasteurized juices and dairy
Table salt (but you can use Himalayan salt)
Refined sugars and flour
MY EXPERIENCE ON THE RAW FOOD DIET
I do have mixed feelings about this diet, but I did feel pretty amazing.
I had much more energy, I was sleeping for shorter hours and when I was waking up, I felt rested and light.
You do need to educate yourself a lot before you start it though and it can be pretty expensive, especially if you don’t use all of the ingredients.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS DIET TO SOMEONE WHO:
has enough money to buy the quality stuff
Is overweight
Wants to detox the entire body for a while
Is not a huge fan of meat
Has enough time to make healthy meals
